About Leenane
Nestled at the head of Killary Harbour, Ireland's only fjord, Leenane (Irish: An Lionan) is a stunning Connemara village where dramatic mountains meet the sea. Tucked between the Maamturk and Mweelrea ranges, it's an outdoor lover's dream and a gateway to rugged glacial valleys like Maam and Delphi.
Leenane is rich in heritage--its iconic stone bridge and village pubs featured in the film The Field, and it inspired Martin McDonagh's acclaimed play The Beauty Queen of Leenane. With two friendly pubs, cafes, a wool museum, and riverside trails, it offers authenticity and community charm. Adventure awaits: cruise the fjord, hike Leenaun Hill, explore Aasleagh Falls, fish on the Erriff River, or enjoy sheep and wool festivals that celebrate rural life. Whether you're passing through or planning a longer stay, Leenane delivers breathtaking scenery, local culture, and a peaceful retreat in the heart of Connemara.About This Website
